Aston Villa bagged a big win this weekend as Dean Smith’s side eased past Everton 3-0.
Three second-half goals secured the points for the Birmingham side as Villa ended the Toffees’ unbeaten start to the Premier League season. The result also shot the Midlands side to tenth in the standings.
Goals from Matty Cash and Leon Bailey got Villa Park bouncing, with Everton one of the in-form sides in the Premier League after five games this season.
Yet going into the game, there was a surprise decision from Smith as the Villa manager fielded a 3-5-2 formation to face Everton. The Premier League side tried something similar last week against Chelsea with a 5-3-2.
However, this week the system pulled off as the extra attacking width from Cash and Matt Targett allowed Villa to cause Everton some real problems. The substitutions of Marvelous Nakamba and Bailey also played a key role.
Indeed, the second half changes were the real difference-maker. And for Villa fans on social media, they believe that the 3-5-2 system against Everton worked.

Smith’s decision to change formation worked in the best way possible. And with Villa next facing off against Manchester United in the league, supporters are eager for the same system to be deployed.
Here’s what some Villa fans had to say about Smith’s decision to switch to a 3-5-2 against Everton on Twitter…
