New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani found himself on the wrong end of comments from former NBA Champion and current Milwaukee Bucks forward, Kyle Kuzma.
After Mamdani openly called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a ‘war criminal‘, a lot of supporters of Israel have turned against the mayor.
This includes NBA star Kuzma, who issued a long statement on social media after seeing Mamdani’s comments about Netanyahu.

Kuzma criticized Mamdani for being ‘a mayor playing President,’ referencing the limited powers that the NYC Mayor has while calling other heads of state war criminals.
“This is 2026. People cosplaying as things they don’t have the authority, the talent, or the track record to actually be. Just for content. A mayor playing president. A founder playing operator. A content creator playing one-on-one, thinking he’s a pro. A 25-yr old with a ring light playing economist.”
“Everyone is auditioning. Nobody is building. We’re raising a generation that learns the reward isn’t in doing the thing, it’s in looking like you did the thing. The clip is the career. The pose is the product. The soundbite is a substitute for a life’s work. Don’t fall for distractions”
Kuzma has been using his social media actively this summer, sharing his strong opinions on the current socio-economic state of the country and other topics he finds interesting, such as AI.
Kuzma doesn’t play in New York and isn’t expected to find his way to either NY-based team, so his choosing to weigh in here is notable, since Mamdani’s policies can’t affect him.
Mayor Mamdani also cannot legally make a run for President of the United States either, so Kuzma could’ve just carried on. But the 31-year-old Michigan native clearly felt a strong need to address Mamdani’s comments on Netanyahu, which have generated 99.1 million views on X in just five days.
