Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo has admitted that his side is struggling in one department and is demanding for his players to put things right again, starting with Tuesday night’s Premier League home game against West Ham United.

Wolves are having a fruitful first season back in the top flight, sitting a very creditable eighth in the table and still in the hat for the fifth round of the FA Cup after drawing at Shrewsbury Town at the weekend.

However, the West Midlands outfit’s previous defensive strengths appear to have deserted them in recent weeks, with their last five games in all competitions seeing 11 goals shipped (BBC Sport).

In addition, Wolves have conceded 18 goals at home, a tally exceeded by only four Premier League clubs, as noted by Opta Stats on BBC Sport – and Nuno is well aware of this problem in particular ahead of kickoff at Molineux.

“Our defensive organisation is always our focus,” he told the official Wolves website. “A lot of things have been going wrong, but it’s not only where it finishes but where it starts.

“We have to improve because we have conceded too many goals – especially at home. We cannot concede at home. We’ve been working on that, so we expect to not make the same mistakes. We have to be more solid and more compact, and against West Ham we have a chance to put that right.”

Both Wolves and West Ham come into this game having accumulated just seven points from their last six matches (BBC Sport), as well as having bad experiences in the FA Cup at the weekend, the hosts labouring to a late 2-2 draw at Shrewsbury and the Hammers falling to a shock 4-2 loss at AFC Wimbledon.
