Nuno Tavares joins Arsenal
Arsenal have announced the signing of Tavares from Benfica this morning.
The 21-year-old left-back has joined the Gunners on a long-term contract.
The Portuguese youngster has given an extensive interview to Arsenal’s official website following the transfer.
The defender has named Smith Rowe as the player he likes, and has also mentioned Bukayo Saka.
Emile Smith Rowe praise
Tavares told Arsenal’s official website: “In the present I like [Emile Smith Rowe], because he is my generation. He’s played against us, on the same side – he played on the right, I played on the left – for the selection (youth) team.
“He’s a good player, and I see Saka too. Young players, good players. And from the past I like Henry. A very good player, and it’s good for me to remember that story.

Exciting
Tavares rates Smith Rowe highly, and it seems that he is very eager to play with him.
The 21-year-old is a left-back by trade and will be a back-up to Kieran Tierney at the Emirates Stadium.
However, the Portugal Under-21 international will get chances.
It is very encouraging to see that Tavares already knows about the players he is going to play with now at Arsenal.

Smith is a very good attacking midfielder who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2020-21.
The Arsenal no.32 scored two goals and gave four assists in the Premier League last season.
The youngster also scored one goal and gave three assists in the Europa League in 2020-21.
