Gary Neville has said on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports Premier League (7:45pm, May 16, 2022) that Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares is “erratic”.

The former Manchester United defender made the comments about Tavares in the build-up to the Premier League game between Newcastle United and Arsenal at St. James’ Park on Monday evening.

With Kieran Tierney injured, Portuguese left-back Tavares started at left-back.

While looking to how the two teams will set up tactically, Sky Sports pundit Neville said that Tavares is erratic.

Neville said on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports Premier League (7:45pm, May 16, 2022): “Tavares is a bit erratic.”

Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares needs time

In our opinion, Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares needs time to develop and improve.

After all, the Portuguese left-back is only 22.

And he moved to Arsenal only in the summer of 2021.

Tavares was signed to be a back-up to Tierney, but the Portuguese is now getting games due to injury problems for the Scotland international left-back.

Yes, we have seen Tavares make mistakes defensively and taken off earlier than normal in matches, but we have to give another season at least.

We cannot judge a player, especially one who is only 22, on just one Premier League campaign.

Hopefully for Tavares, he will have learned from this season and will get better in the coming years.
