Despite the prospect of being the first Wolves side in the Premier League era to claim four top-flight wins in a row, Nuno wasn’t interested in records.
It’s a superb time to be a Wolverhampton Wanderers fan right now, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side flying high in the Premier League and progressing nicely in the latter stages of the FA Cup.
Wolves currently sit seventh in the Premier League table, an outstanding achievement when you consider the calibre of the sides currently in the top six – Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.
Of those, Liverpool were vanquished by Wanderers in the third round of the FA Cup, a result which proved that the Molineux outfit can mix it up with bona fide Premier League title challengers.
Things weren’t quite as smooth in the fourth round, mind, with two games needed and four goals shipped en route to victory past League One strugglers Shrewsbury Town, but after the replay, Wolves flew out to Marbella for a warm-weather training camp ahead of the business end of the season.
While there, Nuno gave an interview to the official club website in which he spoke about the benefits of training in sunnier climes and recent performances, before being asked about the prospect of becoming the first Wolves side in the Premier League era to record four consecutive league wins in a row.
Nuno’s response was firm and outlined the sheer level of focus and determination in the ranks, saying: “We’re not here for the records, we’re not here for that.
“What we are here for is to improve, to work as a team, stay humble and work hard, trying to achieve the best performance that we can in every game. This is the mentality that we have.”
