Emerson Royal might not last long enough to have a second season at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Brazilian right-back joined Tottenham under Nuno Espirito Santo last summer.
However, it has been a relatively poor first season for the South American defender in North London.
And in March, it was reported that Spurs manager Antonio Conte is willing to offload him this summer.
If one report from Italy is true, Emerson is in major trouble.
Risk of being culled
According to Tuttosport, Tottenham are interested in Stephane Singo, with Conte being ‘in love’ with the player.
Problem is, Singo is a right-back and if Conte and Fabio Paratici genuinely do want him, then Emerson is in trouble.
Matt Doherty is looking like a different player under the Italian manager these days and with Singo being a right-back, well the player most at risk is undeniably Emerson.
The former Barcelona player is definitely a decent footballer, evident by the fact that the Camp Nou outfit signed him at one point.
However, ‘decent’ isn’t enough at Tottenham and it looks like Conte and Paratici are sweet on Singo, who stands at 6’3.
According to Transfermarkt, Singo can also play on the right-hand side of attack, which is that bit worse for Emerson because it illustrates that he can defend and attack, making him ideal for a wing-back role under the Lilywhites manager.
For so many foreign imports in the Premier League, the second season is a better metric than the first when gauging what they’re like as a player.
But unfortunately for Emerson, he might only have this season.
