Everton have reportedly contacted Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo to replace Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park.
Wolverhampton Wanderers pulled off a real coup luring Nuno Espirito Santo to Molineux in the summer. The former goalkeeper is one of the most under-rated tacticians in Europe, having led a free-flowing Valencia into the La Liga’s top four before off-field distractions scuppered the club’s progress.
And Nuno also did sterling work in Portugal with both Rio Ave and Porto. Though, thanks to his agent Jorge Mendes, who is a close confidante of Wolves’ Chinese owners, Nuno rocked up in England’s second tier earlier in the year as a replacement for Paul Lambert.
And with the Midlands giants flying high in the Championship under his guidance, it should be little surprise that Everton are considering Nuno as a possible replacement for Ronald Koeman, at least according to Guillem Balague on Twitter.
Sean Dyche and Sam Allardyce remain the favourites to take over at an Everton side in crisis, per The Sun, but the 43-year-old would bring a more free-flowing style of football to Goodison Park – and possibly a player or two from his promotion-chasing Wolves side.
And there’s one player in particular on Wolves’ books that Everton would welcome to Goodison Park with open arms. There was plenty of scrutiny surrounding Leo Bonatini when he arrived in the Midlands on loan from Al-Hilal in the summer, especially when Wolves sold the other senior strikers at their disposal.
The 23-year-old Brazilian, however, has been an inspired addition and has nine goals in 15 Championship games, including six in his last five.
Considering that a lack of a natural centre-forward is top of Everton’s long list of problems, Nuno should consider bringing Bonatini along for the journey if he emerges as the frontrunner for one of the most pressurising though exciting jobs in English football.
