Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that Crysencio Summerville will be evaluated after picking up a knock during West Ham United’s FA Cup clash with Brentford.

Summerville was seen limping late in the match, casting a slight shadow over what was otherwise an excellent night for West Ham at the London Stadium.

After coming on as a substitute in the second half, he played through extra time but did not step up for any of West Ham’s five penalties. The club will now look to determine the extent of his injury ahead of their next fixture.

After the match, the Portuguese manager told BBC Sport: “Let’s assess him. He felt a knock. I don’t know exactly what he has. It is concerning but hopefully, we recover with this moment of joy. We’ll get better, we’ll be faster and we will be able to compete against [Manchester] City.

“Enjoy for a couple of hours and then refocus, recover well and respect your body. It was a big effort from a lot of the players. Then we have to go again.”

There is no doubt that West Ham need their top player available for what will be a crucial run-in over the final nine matches of the season.

The former Leeds winger has been in excellent form, scoring five times and adding an assist in the last nine matches.

It is not an exaggeration to say West Ham’s survival hopes rest largely on his shoulders after his incredible run of form lately.

Nuno should have more information when he speaks ahead of Saturday’s fixture against Manchester City later this week.

West Ham United’s record without Crysencio Summerville this season

While it was only recently that Summerville has been recognised as one of the Premier League’s top players, West Ham have struggled in his absence all season.

The winger has missed five league matches so far, and the Hammers have not managed a win in any of them.

While it is still too early to draw conclusions about Summerville’s availability for the run-in, having uncertainty around their best player is hardly ideal for West Ham at this stage of the campaign.
