The Wolverhampton Wanderers wing-back wasn’t at his best against the Red Devils last night.

Nuno Espirito Santo spoke to reporters after Wolves’ 1-1 draw with Manchester United last night, and admitted that Matt Doherty struggled during the first-half against Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international has been a fantastic servant for the Black Country outfit over the past nine years or so, but he was far from his best last night.
In fact, Nuno brought him off at half-time, replacing him with the speedy Adama Traore.
And the former Barcelona ace really impressed against United when he took Doherty’s place.
Nuno spoke to reporters, and offered an insight as to why he made the change at half-time, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“He (Traore) helped the team. Matt (Doherty) was struggling in the first-half and he helped the team, it’s about the squad, trying to manage the options you have.”
Doherty is usually one of Wolves’ most consistent performers, so it is unlikely that Nuno will drop him for Sunday’s clash with Burnley.
After Adama’s display, however, the Irishman will now know that he has strong competition for his place at Molineux this season.
