Speaking to Wolverhampton Wanderers’ official website, manager Nuno Espirito Santo has hailed the club’s fans and believes that they proved their unity with the team once again on Saturday.

Wolves established a 14-point cushion in the automatic promotion spots by beating Ipswich Town 1-0 at Portman Road yesterday.

According to Wolves’ webste, some 1,890 travelling fans made the 160-mile trip to Ipswich, and the Portuguese boss claims that such numbers reflect a certain connection felt between them and high-flying Wanderers.

Nuno Espírito Santo manager of Wolves applauds the fans after the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Wolverhampton at iPro Stadium on August 12, 2017 in Derby, England.

“The way they support us through the game and the way the support us in the end shows that they are together with the team and we are with them,” he told the club’s official website.

“We thank them and I cannot get tired of saying that but we have to keep going, we still have a long, long way to go.”

Consequence of the win, Nuno’s side are 12 points clear of second-placed Derby County – who have a game in hand – but it’s no wonder that the fans are travelling far and wide to support their troops this season.

Nuno Espirito Santo, the Wolves manager looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Millwall and Wolverhampton at The Den on December 26, 2017 in London, England.

The 44-year-old has Wolves looking razor sharp and it would be a massive shock if the West Midlands outfit weren’t promoted to the Premier League automatically come May – or perhaps even earlier depending on whether they maintain their momentum.

Saturday’s win came on the back of a disappointing 2-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest at Molineux, so the fact that Nuno can draw a line under such setbacks and get them back on track so quickly bodes very well indeed.
