Wolverhampton Wanderers had to fight and scrap for their victory at the weekend.
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo spoke exclusively to the club’s official website after his side’s hard-fought 2-1 win over Newcastle United on Sunday, and admitted that he was not happy with their performance.
The Black Country outfit have won back-to-back Premier League games, and now sit in 10th spot in the table, just four points adrift of sixth placed Manchester United.
Nuno must be pleased with how his side have bounced back from a worrying dip in form last month, although it has been clear that they have not been at their scintillating best in recent weeks.
The Portuguese spoke to reporters after Sunday’s win over Newcastle, and insisted that the Wolves players must improve by meeting the high standards that he sets, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“It was not so good, honestly and we’ve spoken to each other. We must be proud because one thing we didn’t abandon was that we stayed with the game. We stayed with our attacks, we stayed compact, we stayed organised like a team. We win but the win cannot disguise things we must improve. No matter who we play, we always must maintain our standards, but we are improving, we are managing better and we stayed with our tasks.”
Next up for Wolves is a home game against Bournemouth on Saturday, and Nuno will be hoping that his team plays in a more attractive, free-flowing manner.
A win for Wolves could see them jump up to seventh position in the Premier League table.
