The 2022 FIFA World Cup is just shy of a month away, and for some star players in the Premier League, the biggest competition in football could now have come at a better time.

Whilst there are numerous Premier League players currently enjoying the form of their lives, the same can’t be said for some stars, who could use the November World Cup as an opportunity to not only rediscover their form but to also potentially win the move to another club.

The World Cup is famous for driving up prices for players and for encouraging big clubs to spend big on players who impress in this competition, and for some Premier League outcasts, this is hopefully what they can enjoy this winter out in Qatar with their respective nations.

Indeed, the Premier League season will soon go on ice ahead of the World Cup, and here are five players who will be excited to go out to Qatar and to prove everyone in football that they have the quality and the nerve to compete in the biggest competition in all of sport.

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire’s fall from grace has been quite spectacular, to say the least. And with Erik Ten Hag seemingly showing no sign of bringing the Manchester United captain back into the fold, the World Cup could well be the defender’s best chance this year to prove he has the quality to perform.

Much to the ire of many England fans, Maguire is highly likely to start the Three Lions’ opening game of the World Cup against Iran, and whilst many supporters would see this decision as a sackable offence for Gareth Southgate, Maguire will no doubt want to impress in what could be the biggest competition of his career so far.

Christian Pulisic

From one superstar bench player to another, Christian Pulisic’s time at Chelsea is seemingly coming to an end, with CalcioMercato recently reporting that Todd Boehly is keen to get the American international out at all costs, with Leeds United and Newcastle United both being linked to the winger over the summer.

With Pulisic expected to lead and captain the United States this winter, the 24-year-old will have the weight of a nation on his entire back. Yet the attacker is a player who thrives under pressure, and the attacker could lay down the gauntlet for America in Qatar next month.

Brennan Johnson

Nottingham Forest’s return to the Premier League has been a rough one, to say the least, with the incredible 24 signings made by the club overshadowing many of the players who actually helped Steve Cooper’s side win promotion in the first place, namely Brennan Johnson, who could explode onto the scene at the World Cup with Wales.

The 21-year-old has impressed in patches for Forest season, though given how dominant the winger was in the Championship last year, Johnson is far from his best, and the attacker could rediscover his electric form in Qatar if the attacker is given minutes from Rob Page.

Darwin Nunez

Darwin Nunez’s first few months in England with Liverpool have been odd, to say the least, with the Uruguay international having some moments of pure brilliance whilst most have left supporters frustrated and puzzled why this striker of all players was chose to replace Sadio Mane over the summer.

Regardless, Nunez’s time with Liverpool will come eventually, and this November could given fans a good reason to believe in the attacker if the striker impresses with Uruguay in Qatar, with many supporters and pundits from the South American nation tipping the 23-year-old to break onto the scene in the Middle East at the World Cup.

Hwang Hee-Chan

Wolves’ goalscoring problems have been plain to see all season, and Hwang Hee-Chan seemingly falling out of favour at the club amid a £20m bid from Leeds as reported by TeamTalk has not aided matters in the slightest, yet the World Cup could prove to be a solution for all parties.

The South Korean superstar is expected to partner Heung-min Son in the attack, and with the disappointment of the 2018 World Cup still fresh in the minds of many from the Asian powerhouse, Hwang will be eager to impress in Qatar and to lead his country past the group stages this winter.
