‘Nunes going to Man City’: Sky pundit urges ‘very good’ PL star to snub Tottenham transfer

Danny Mills says Brennan Johnson is ‘better off staying’ at Nottingham Forest amid rumours he could join Tottenham Hotspur.

Time is ticking closer to Friday’s transfer deadline day and Tottenham are expected to be busy during these next 48 hours or so.

One name they are looking to bring in is Brennan Johnson, but Mills questioned whether he starts for Ange Postecoglou’s side, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (29/08/23 at 7:20 pm).

Spurs have Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski leading the line and Mills feels that the Nottingham Forest star would be a bench player when the above trio are fit and firing.

Last season, Johnson made huge strides in his game, helping his boyhood club maintain their Premier League status after their long-awaited return to the big time.

Nonetheless, amid suggestions that Johnson could be Spurs-bound before Friday’s transfer deadline, Mills urged him to stay at the City Ground, as he compared the ‘very good player’ with Matheus Nunes of Wolves and his expected move to Manchester City.

“I think he (Brenann Johnson) is a very good player,” said Mills. “He has got a lot of ability. He has got pace as well. An eye for goal. Does he go there and play? That would be his biggest concern. We talked about Nunes going to Manchester City.

“Not being disrespectful, but it’s a step up, in terms of the size of the club and where they are right now. Not the history, of course.

“But does he play? That’s the problem. He isn’t going to play in front of Son, with Richarlison, you have to give him a go. If you bring in a new signing, then that’s £60 million wasted. I don’t see him starting. I am not sure (he starts ahead of Kulusevski). He was great last season, before he picked up his injury. I am not convinced he goes there and goes straight into the XI. I think he might be better off staying.”

Johnson has a big call to make

There’s no doubt that the Wales international would be more comfortable in his current environment and he would earn regular starts, in comparison to if he jouned Spurs.

Whilst moving to Spurs, during these past few years, would have been understandable, the fact of the matter is, they aren’t in Europe now.

Either way, with the time ticking towards the deadline, the player has a big call to make because he might be better off progressing his game at Forest.
