Former Rangers defender Arthur Numan has told Sky Sports that he expects his former side to beat Highland League minnows Fraserburgh on Sunday afternoon in the Scottish Cup.

The Gers return to competitive action after the winter break by travelling to fifth-tier side Fraserburgh, with a place in the fourth round at stake in what has the potential to be a huge banana skin for Graeme Murty’s side.

A number of new signings could make their debut for Rangers, as Murty looks set to confirm another couple of new recruits this week in Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings and Norwich City defender Russell Martin.

Numan expects Rangers to earn victory despite the trick conditions, as well as stating that new manager Murty has started well after being given the job at Ibrox until the end of the season.

“I’ve been involved with this kind of game, it’s fantastic,” Numan said. “At the stadium, it is very small; you can smell the history of the club. For the locals it is fantastic to play against Rangers, everybody will turn up on Sunday to support the team.

“With all respect, Rangers should win this game. I think he’s [Murty] done a good job so far. I have to admit, you have to give him all the credit. He is doing well, the draw against Celtic will give the team confidence.

“They’ve signed some new players as well, so it looks all well. You don’t want to miss this game, it’s fantastic. it’s good for the new signings to do some team building in Florida, it will be difficult, a very difficult game for them.”

Rangers have participated in the Florida cup during the winter break, in which they earned two wins against Brazilian sides Atletico Mineiro and Corinthians, winning 1-0 and 4-2.

They return to action without senior first-team stars Bruno Alves, Kenny Miller and Graham Dorrans, with Murty expected to make a number of changes that could also see Andy Halliday and Michael O’Halloran start after returning from loan spells.
