Michael Owen has claimed that Tottenham’s Harry Kane has been ‘nowhere to be seen’ in the Premier League’s Golden Boot race this season, as he told Premier League Productions.
The former England player added that Kane has been ‘very quiet’ for Spurs during the first half of the campaign and is now ‘starting to look like himself’.
Last season, Kane, 28, wasn’t only the Premier League’s top-scorer, but he was also the top dog in the assists charts.
But, during this campaign, he was been nowhere near that form and the well-documented rumours from the summer, about that Manchester City interest, has clearly played a part.
This season, Kane only has five league goals to his name and he is 11 behind the current leader, Mo Salah, who is seemingly going to run away with that Golden Boot.
And when speaking about Kane’s situation at the club, Owen delivered a pretty damning verdict on how things have gone for the England captain.
“The Harry Kane situation wasn’t that well-timed,” said Owen. “Then the fallout from that. He was very quiet during the early part of the season.
“You expect Harry Kane to be right up there challenging Mo Salah for the Golden Boot. But he’s nowhere to be seen, at the moment.
“He is starting to look like himself. Son has been injured in parts. They rely on one or two players, rather than having a very good team.
“I think they need some investment and that manager needs time because they have fallen off quite away during these past few seasons.”
Even though Kane didn’t get on the scoresheet against Southampton last night, he is starting to look a lot better under Antonio Conte.
Whilst that Saints defeat is a blow to the north London club’s Champions League hopes.
The Spurs faithful will be hoping that their star striker has possibly left his best form until last.
If that’s the case, then there is no reason why Conte shouldn’t guide them to a top-four finish in May.
