Leeds United have lost playmaker Samu Saiz to Getafe, and his shock, abrupt departure leaves the club needing to bring in another attacking midfielder.

Saiz’s creativity will be missed, even if he was inconsistent at times and could have scored more goals, and Marcelo Bielsa must find a player with similar flair.

A number of names may be in mind for Leeds during next month’s transfer window, and they should certainly be considering Peterborough United’s Marcus Maddison again.

We at HITC Sport reported in August that Leeds were considering Maddison, and the time may now be right for Leeds to strike with a January bid.

Maddison, 25, hit a staggering 12 goals and 23 assists for Peterborough last season, and has grabbed two goals and 10 assists this term, continuing his reputation as League One’s assist king.

A creative midfield player who can cut in from the right or play as a number 10, Maddison may have the spark to play in Saiz’s role for Bielsa, and he could be available in January.

Peterborough have brought in another attacking player in Lee Tomlin, and he has been on the transfer list since May after the Posh assured him he could leave if promotion back to the Championship wasn’t secured.

Maddison is still in League One though, and after prior links to Leeds and his continued creativity for Peterborough, he should be a name in the frame for the Whites after losing Saiz.

In fact, some Leeds fans have been taking to Twitter to urge the club to make a January move for Maddison, feeling he has bags of potential and is worth a gamble as Leeds chase a return to the Premier League.
