West Ham United are reported long-term admirers of the Chelsea ace.
Manuel Pellegrini has already been extremely busy during this summer’s transfer window, but his business should be far from finished, with central midfield being an area that is in need of addressing.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Pedro Obiang is close to joining Sampdoria, and if the Spaniard does end up leaving the Hammers, Pellegrini will obviously have to bring in an able-bodied replacement.
With this in mind, West Ham should consider revisiting their interest in Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater.
The Hammers were linked with a move for the former Leicester man earlier this year, according to a report from the Telegraph, and now seems like the right time to bring the Premier League winner to east London.
The 28-year-old joined Chelsea from the Foxes in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £35 million, but he has struggled for game-time at Stamford Bridge.
That is not to say that he doesn’t still have a lot to offer at the very highest level, though, and he could prove to be a really useful asset for West Ham.
Drinkwater excels at breaking up play, and possesses excellent distribution skills.
He would be the ideal midfield partner for Jack Wilshere and Mark Noble, and he would arguably be a huge upgrade on Pedro Obiang.
West Ham fans will already be extremely excited at the prospect of the new season beginning, and if Pellegrini manages to add Drinkwater to his ranks this summer, his squad will be in fantastic shape to challenge for the European places this term.
