The Hull City hitman would be a useful addition to the Aston Villa squad this summer.
Aston Villa Manager Steve Bruce
The Villans endured an extremely disappointing 2016/17 campaign, and despite an initial reaction after the appointment of Steve Bruce as manager in October, the players’ performance levels dropped badly, which culminated in their 13th placed finish in the division.
Bruce now faces an incredibly important couple of months ahead of him, as he looks to make changes to his Villa squad that will help them gain promotion back to the Premier League.
One particular area of concern for the Villa boss will be his forward options, after his side became over-reliant on Jonathan Kodjia – who is now set to miss the start of next season following an operation to help cure a serious ankle injury.
Hull City’s Abel Hernandez looks dejected
With this in mind, they should consider renewing their interest in Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, especially after the Tigers suffered relegation to the Championship.
The Midlands outfit were keen on signing the 26-year-old last summer, and had a £14 million bid for the Uruguayan rejected, according to the Daily Mail.
And now Bruce should make an early move for Hernandez, as he looks to add more firepower to his impotent attack.
Hull City’s Abel Hernandez in action
The Hull man would offer Villa an entirely different option, with his ability to both hold up the ball with aplomb, and also make incisive runs in behind the opposition defence.
At just 26, he is still yet to enter his prime, and a move to Villa Park could help bring out the best in the 27-capped international striker.
He is capable of playing the lone striker role, but would be equally as effective if deployed as part of a two-pronged attack, and could strike up a fearsome partnership with Kodjia, when he returns from injury.
And with the transfer window just around the corner, this will definitely be one to keep a close eye on.
