Gini Wijnaldum is a very popular player among Liverpool fans – but not at the moment.
Some fans of the Anfield club are upset with what the Netherlands international uploaded on Twitter shortly after their 3-1 defeat away to Leicester City on Saturday.
The result ultimately saw Liverpool slip 13 points behind Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League table and Jurgen Klopp admitted after the game that it was now impossible for the Reds to retain their title.
Instead of acknowledging the defeat, Wijnaldum sent a happy birthday message to compatriot Kevin Strootman.
And some Liverpool supporters believe that he should have sent him a private message rather than a public one so soon after another poor result.
Here’s what they’re saying:
This is social media at its silliness really.
Wijnaldum, who has been one of Liverpool’s most consistent players this season, certainly doesn’t warrant criticism for something as harmless as wishing his mate a happy birthday, regardless of whether it’s public or private.
