It was reported this past weekend that Arsenal could try and sign Philippe Coutinho following his loan at Aston Villa.
Coutinho has been a revelation since returning to the Premier League in January.
Despite speculation about a move to Arsenal, Steven Gerrard, his former Liverpool teammate, brought him to Villa Park.
And despite a difficult four years on Barcelona’s books following a £142 million transfer in 2018 [BBC Sport], the 29-year-old still has it.
Since coming back to England, the Brazilian maestro has managed four goals and three assists from 10 Premier League outings.
And according to Sport this past weekend, Arsenal are ‘studying’ a potential offer this summer.
However, Coutinho has hinted via Brazilian media that his long-term future is at Aston Villa, revealing that he’s writing his next chapter in the Midlands.
He said to Globo Esporte: “I have a beautiful story at Liverpool, I was happy there, now I’m starting to write a story at Aston Villa. I’m happy that once again I’m able to play well in England, as I’ve played in Italy, Spain and Germany.”
Unfortunately for Arsenal, it looks like Coutinho is happy at Villa – and why wouldn’t he be?
He’s playing under a former teammate, finally enjoying his football again and the supporters at Villa Park adore him.
It’s taken a while, but Coutinho is a massive player for somebody again and although the North Londoners are a bigger club, it looks like the South American wizard is content with enhanced form these days rather than the stature of clubs.
