Jurgen Klopp has said that Liverpool’s Fabinho is ready to start against RB Leipzig this evening, as per his comments to the club’s official Youtube channel.
Fabinho was left out of Liverpool’s team to face Fulham at the weekend, with the Brazilian only coming on as a late substitute.
Klopp said after the game that he simply didn’t want to take any chances with the 27-year-old, as he is only just coming back from injury.
But Klopp has hinted that Fabinho will be fit and ready to start tomorrow.
That means that he will certainly be in the Reds’ starting line-up, although which position he will play is unclear.
“I don’t know with Fab. We have to say,” Klopp said, when asked if Fabinho would play in defence or midfield.
“Well I know, but I don’t say. That’s the truth. Having Fab is in general good and we didn’t play him from the beginning because after a long time, two games in a row – that doesn’t make too much sense. Or it’s too dangerous in our situation actually. So now he’s ready. But if he will play centre-half or midfield you will see tomorrow.”
Fabinho has arguably been Liverpool’s best defender this season, but his presence has been badly missed in midfield since he moved into their backline.
If Liverpool do put him back into the middle of the park, Klopp could be relying on the more inexperienced pairing of Ozan Kabak and Nat Phillips, though.
Liverpool go into the game with a 2-0 advantage, which means that they are the heavy favourites to progress, despite their poor form of late.
