Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Diogo Jota ‘should be fine’ for Liverpool’s trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.

The Portuguese star has had a lot of football in a short period of time following a three-month spell on the sidelines due to injury.

Due to Roberto Firmino’s injury, the Liverpool boss started him and kept him on the field for 90 minutes in the defeat by Fulham last week, before giving him over an hour in the Champions League win over Red Bull Leipzig on Wednesday night.

Klopp has confirmed that the Fulham decision was ‘definitely not planned’ and although the player was a tad ‘knackered’ upon returning from Hungary, the German has revealed that he’ll be okay to continue in the visit to Molineux on Monday.

He told a press conference: “Now he’s back. He had to play the first game – 90 minutes – which was definitely not planned. And that was the reason why he only played 60 minutes in the second game. He felt a bit knackered the next day, but that’s normal. Now he should be fine again.”

It’s easy to forget about Jota because most of Liverpool’s problems have come at the other end of the field, in terms of defensive casualties.

But with Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Firmino being hit and miss for most of 2021 so far, having the former Wolves attacker sidelined was a huge factor in the Reds’ form being as poor as it has been since the turn of the year.

But now that he’s back, Klopp’s side could and should certainly improve.
