Ashley Williams told Sky Sports Football (05/09/21 at 1:40 pm) that Daniel James was ‘brave’ to join Leeds United this summer.

On deadline day, James swapped Manchester United colours for that of Leeds – two-and-a-half years after trying to move to the Elland Road club.

Given the depth in quality over at Old Trafford, there’s no doubt that James’ games time will increase under Marcelo Bielsa.

And former Wales captain Williams is thrilled that’s the case because he wants more of his fellow countryman earning as many minutes as they can during their quest to reach Qatar.

“I think it was brave for him to go to Leeds,” said Williams. “He could have sat at Manchester United and probably not played as much as he would have liked.

“I thought he did well for them when he was on the field. Now, he is at a club where he is probably going to feature more.

“From a Wales perspective, it’s great because we want as many of our players playing week in and week out.”

The World Cup in Qatar takes place next November and that is ample chance for James to take his game to the next level.

Of course, the Welsh have to qualify first and it’s touch and go for them to do so.

With Gareth Bale at the helm, they know that they can achieve anything, including their performance yesterday.

Despite being 2-1 down going into the break, Rob Pages’ men recorded a 3-2 win against Belarus, with Bale netting a hat-trick and James supplying the stoppage-time assist.
