Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has told Football.London that Matt Doherty was back to his best against Frank Lampard’s Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs beat Everton 2-0 at home in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Republic of Ireland international right-back Doherty started for Tottenham at right wing-back.
And his performance impressed Conte.
Antonio Conte on Matt Doherty for Tottenham v Everton
Conte said about Doherty: “I’m really happy for Matthew. He played a good game against Brighton but today he was better.
“Today I saw Matt Doherty of last season. I said to him ‘now finally you are the player I know!’”

Impressive performance
In our view, Matt Doherty had one of his best games in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt against Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League this evening.
The wing-back could have done better going on the attack in the first half, but there could be no complaints in that department in the second period.
It was Doherty’s shot that Jordan Pickford spilled before bringing down Harry Kane for the penalty.
The Republic of Ireland International won free kicks and made a number of good attacking forays.
Doherty is not exactly a world-class player and has his limitations, but the wing-back being publicly praised by Conte shows how good his performance was against Everton.
