Karren Brady assured fans West Ham were no longer a selling club, and her message has now disappeared from the team’s website.
Olympique Marseille’s latest recruit Payet displays his new jersey
West Ham were rocked in January by star player Dimitri Payet going on strike in order to clinch a transfer back to former club Marseille.
The transfer was unexpected and certainly not an event any of the West Ham hierarchy saw coming.
This was evident by comments vice chairman Karren Brady made exactly a year ago, reported by HITC Sport at the time.
The Hammers had handed Payet a contract extension two months earlier and did not expect him to behave as treacherously as he did this past transfer window.
As for Brady’s comments, West Ham have now erased all mention of them.
Her vow was originally posted on West Ham’s official website under the headline ‘a message from the vice chairman’.
The link no longer works, with the Hammers deleting the article, evidently hoping to spare Brady’s blushes for a vow which backfired less than 12 months after it was made.
