Sunderland should consider a move for Leeds defender Paudie O’Connor.

Young Leeds United defender Paudie O’Connor is available for loan, according to Leeds Live.

O’Connor is to be offered a new deal after breaking into the team at the end of last season before being allowed out on loan.

A League One move is likely, and Sunderland should make a move for the 21-year-old Irishman.

O’Connor is an uncompromising defender who is not shy to put his foot in, and earned comparisons from Leeds fans to cult hero Pontus Jansson.

Letting him leave could come back to bite Leeds if they suffer with injuries, but O’Connor could benefit from the chance to play regular football.

Sunderland’s squad is undergoing a makeover and defender Lamine Kone is not expected to stick around in League One.

O’Connor would provide cover for Kone if he stays, and a replacement if he leaves.

On a loan deal, O’Connor would be a low risk move from the Black Cats, and he himself could benefit playing for a team which will have high expectations upon them.

If Sunderland do not move, they are likely to find themselves playing against him for another League One side.
