Forest have signed Jason Cummings from Hibernian and Barrie McKay from Rangers, but a box-to-box man who knows the league is vital.

Nottingham Forest fans have a lot of reason to be cheerful at present – their club is being returned to them by owners who know what they’re doing, they’ve got a good manager in Mark Warburton, and they’re making excellent signings so far.

21-year-old striker Jason Cummings – who has scored 69 goals in his last three seasons – arrived from Hibernian and 22-year-old Barrie McKay signed from Rangers, as Warburton looks to make his Forest side a very young and exciting one.

However, while there are still a few things that need addressing, the big one is in central midfield, as Forest are crying out for an experienced box-to-box midfielder who can get stuck in at the back and make things happen further up the pitch,

It seemed that Fulham’s Kevin McDonald was the man that Warburton had identified for that position, however, The Sun (print edition, page 63, June 18th 2017) claimed that the Whites had slapped a £7m price tag on his head, pricing Forest out of a move.

While many at Forest would be happy for a season where the club finished, say, 11th given the drama fans have endured over the last five years both on and – mainly – off the pitch, but a powerhouse midfielder who knows the league could genuinely turn Warburton’s side into play-off contenders.

The position certainly seems to be one high up on Warburton’s transfer list, so Forest fans will be hoping that the right man can be brought in and significantly boost the club’s chances next season.
