Jorge Grant shone on loan at Notts County – and now parent club Nottingham Forest want to keep him at the City Ground long-term.
It can be little surprise that Notts County want to turn Jorge Grant’s loan deal permanent this summer, as reported by the Nottingham Post.
Scoring four times in his first seven games, including the odd long-range screamer, the 22-year-old midfielder dragged Kevin Nolan’s seemingly doomed side comfortably clear of the League Two drop zone.
And with County ambitiously targeting a promotion push next season, signing Grant on a permanent deal would represent a major statement of intent.
Yet, the Nottingham Post add that parent club Forest now see the playmaker as a major player in the club’s immediate future. They had initially let his contract run down at the City Ground but the report claims the Championship strugglers have now offered him a three-year contract.
And this could prove to be a masterstroke – if he accepts of course. Grant may have jumped at the chance to move to Meadow Lane on loan after making just 17 Championship appearances in two-and-a-half seasons.
But, after proving his potential a few miles down the road, the Banbury-born starlet has demonstrated that he has the quality to push for a place in Mark Warburton’s first-team next season.
Taken for Granted?
Forest may not be short of attacking options with the likes of Zach Clough, Jamie Ward and Mustapha Carayol all fighting for a place in the starting XI but none of the midfielders at Forest’s disposal possess Grant’s eye for goal.
As Nolan told County’s official website, Grant is a naturally gifted footballer blessed with “brilliant technical ability, creativity and flair.”
Warburton surely won’t be happy for a player with those attributes to leave for nothing.
