Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon has told Liber Tatea, as translated by The Chronicle, that he regrets his move from Sunderland to Watford.

Pantilimon joined Sunderland in the summer of 2014 after leaving Manchester City at the end of the 2013-14 campaign.

In January 2016, the Romania international goalkeeper moved to Watford from the Black Cats.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper struggled to make an impact at Vicarage Road and has loan spells at Deportivo La Coruna and Forest last season.

In the summer of 2018, Pantilimon moved to Championship club Forest on a permanent contract from Watford.

Pantilimon told Liber Tatea, as translated by The Chronicle: “I regretted a transfer, the safest one to Watford. A total failure, I did not expect it. I was so sure. There was no problem with Heurelho Gomes.

“I had come from Sunderland, I was the goalkeeper of the year in the Premier League. I said I’d better go, for myself and for the future, wherever I wanted.

“But it turned out that it was not like that. It’s a chapter I went through, I’m not happy to talk about it!”

Recovering form

Pantilimon made six appearances in the Championship for Forest last season, and the goalkeeper will be aiming to establish himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Reds this campaign.

Forest have not exactly been great so far this campaign, but Aitor Karanka’s side have a lot of quality and talent to challenge for the Championship playoffs.
