The 24-year-old striker had been subject to a lot of criticism recently, but showed he’s still capable at the weekend.

While Nottingham Forest departed Preston North End’s Deepdale with just a point following a 1-1 draw, the man they had to thank for securing that point was none other than Britt Assombalonga.

The 24-year-old has hardly been flavour of the month at The City Ground, with the striker facing a colossal backlash on social media for what has been perceived as lazy and disinterested performances.

That animosity was also felt in the stands, with Assombalonga’s substitution in the recent fixture against Derby County being roundly cheered by large portions of The City Ground crowd.

However, following the international break, it seems Assombalonga is the player that Forest fans fell in love with again, and was superb in leading the line with Ben Brereton against Preston.

After picking up a delightful Zach Clough ball, Assombalonga expertly held off his man to drive into the box, before bamboozling the goalkeeper at his near post with an ice cold finish.

To give Forest the best chance of survival, new manager Mark Warburton had to do something to fix the Assombalonga situation over the international break, and going by the weekend’s action, he may have achieved that.
