Tony Pulis has compared Middlesbrough’s spending to that of Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Derby County.

Nottingham Forest winger Joe Lolley has responded to Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis’s recent comments on Twitter.

Pulis has highlighted the difference in budgets between Middlesbrough and some of their Championship rivals, such as Aston Villa, Derby County and Forest.

While Villa have booked their place in the Championship playoffs this season, Derby and Boro are still fighting for a top-six finish.

As for Forest, the Reds will finish the season outside the playoffs and will have to wait until next season to rekindle their promotion hopes.

Pulis told The Telegraph: “If you look at the other side, Derby have spent a fortune and Aston Villa have spent a fortune. Lots of other teams in the division have spent loads of money.

“We played Nottingham Forest the other week – we’d sold players for over £50m, Nottingham Forest had bought players in that squad that played us for over £56m.

“So, there was a £100m deficit in what the two clubs had done this season. But nobody talks about that. That’s fact.”

Forest winger Lolley has hit back at Pulis’s comments on the Reds, and the 26-year-old seems to have ridiculed the Middlesbrough manager and does not appear to agree with him.

The former Kidderminster Harriers and Huddersfield Town winger has made 41 starts and four substitute appearances in the Championship for Forest this season, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

Middlesbrough will face Rotherham United away from home in the Championship on Sunday afternoon.
