The former Brighton and Hove Albion manager would have been a popular appointment, it seems.

Some Nottingham Forest fans aren’t happy with the club’s appointment of Sabri Lamouchi.

Lamouchi was confirmed as Martin O’Neill’s successor just 18 minutes after Forest announced they had sacked the Northern Irishman.

The former France international had been out of work since the end of last year, when he was sacked by Rennes.

And with only a spell in Qatar and as manager of the Ivory Coast as prior experience, some scepticism was perhaps to be expected from those of a Nottingham Forest persuasion.

Some more familiar names, such as Nigel Adkins, Garry Monk and Chris Hughton are all newly out of work.

And the latter, it seems, would have made a welcome City Ground appointment.

Hughton, who led Newcastle United to the Championship title in 2009/10, recently took Brighton and Hove Albion from the second tier’s lower reaches to the Premier League, where they survived their first two seasons before parting with the 60-year-old.

And with Hughton among the bookies’ contenders to succeed Frank Lampard at Nottingham Forest’s rivals, Derby County, Reds supporters will be hoping their overlooking of the Irishman doesn’t come back to bite them.

Would Hughton have been a better appointment than Lamouchi for Nottingham Forest?
