Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Roberto Gagliardini, with the 28-year-old keen to leave the San Siro this January.
According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Steve Cooper’s side have already launched an enquiry for Gagliardini as the Italian international looks set to leave Inter in the coming days, with the midfielder making just eight appearances for the Nerazzurri this season.
A title winner for Inter in 2021 and a player who was highly rated by Antonio Conte as per Sempre Inter, Gagliardini would be Forest’s 25th signing since returning to the Premier League if the Reds can secure a deal to bring the midfielder to the City Ground.
With Forest already signing two midfielders this January in Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa, though, adding another player in the position in Gagliardini could be a risky move for the Garibaldi, with Cooper risking unbalancing the squad with a needless signing.

Indeed, whilst Gagliardini would be a good option for the Nottingham side, Forest’s current options in the position are at a breaking point. And with Cooper finally settling on a system that is getting his team results, signing one extra player could have some negative long-term effects.
Moreover, with other positions in the squad in need of some reinforcements, Gagliardini’s arrival could cause some backlash from supporters who are eager for the transfer team to invest in more important areas of the team, something that could be key in keeping Forest up in the Premier League.
Forest signing Gagliardini could be a major mistake for Cooper

Forest’s incredible spending has been well-documented this season, and whilst the newly-promoted Premier League side have calmed down significantly this January, three new signings is still quite the impressive feat from Cooper’s side, though adding Gagliardini to the mix could be a risk.
Whilst a deal would be quite cheap to pull off given how eager Inter are to sell Gagliardini, adding another midfielder to a congested group could cause some major issues in terms of team morale, with the 28-year-old seemingly better suited to joining a club where he will be the star man in the midfield.
