Simon Jordan believes John Terry could still be a candidate to replace Chris Hughton at Nottingham Forest despite the Premier League legend distancing himself from the role, speaking to talkSPORT (14 September, 10.30am).
When the former Chelsea skipper took to Instagram this morning, backing away from speculation linking him with a role at the City Ground, you’d be forgiven for assuming the saga was over before it got going.
The Times and The Sun both name checked Terry as a potential replacement for the under-fire Hughton at a notoriously trigger-happy Nottingham Forest.
And while the 40-year-old attempted to, in his words, “distance myself” from the speculation – highlighting his respect for Hughton during a lengthy social media post – former Crystal Palace owner Jordan is savvy enough to know how things work behind the scenes.

“(Terry) doesn’t distance himself from the availability if they did fire Hughton – or the Forest job full stop,” Jordan says.
“(Hughton) won’t get sacked because John Terry is available. (He’ll get sacked) because the owner might want to replace him with someone else, which might include John Terry.
“(Terry) is really saying he’s not behind (the speculation).
“If he said ‘under no circumstances would I be interested, full stop’, then I’d say that’s irrefutable.
“He’s been indexed to Forest for a reason. I guarantee if the journalist (who wrote the story) came on the show, he’d tell you he got it from a source that is moderately dependable.
“Hughton won’t be in a job if his performance continues. Then Terry may be available.”
