Nottingham Forest have told Manchester United that they would like to keep James Garner at the City Ground next season, according to 90min.

Garner joined Nottingham Forest on loan from Manchester United in January 2021 until the end of the 2020-21 season.

The 21-year-old midfielder returned to the Reds on a season-long loan deal last summer.

The England Under-21 international helped Forest win promotion to the Premier League.

Garner made 39 starts and five substitute appearances in the Championship for Forest this past season.

The youngster scored four goals and gave eight assists in those games.

90min have reported that Nottingham Forest have told Manchester United that they would like to sign him back on another loan deal.

Steven Cooper’s side are aware that they will not be able to make Garner’s loan deal permanent.

90min have added that if Garner ‘leaves again on loan, Forest will be given the first option to sign him’.

Manchester United’s James Garner back at Nottingham Forest?

In our view, if Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag is not going to use James Garner on a regular basis next season, then a move back to Nottingham Forest on loan would make sense.

Now, of course, Ten Hag will want to see the youngster closely in pre-season training.

If the United boss thinks that Garner would be better off spending another season out on loan, then a move back to Forest would be a great idea.

Garner knows Forest and the way Cooper works, and he would be an asset for the Reds in the Premier League next season.
