Sammy Ameobi could be a shock arrival at Nottingham Forest after leaving Newcastle United – Gboly Ariyibi may be hoping it is nothing more than speculation.
Gboly Ariyibi earned a move to Forest after impressing at Chesterfield
It’s fair to say Gboly Ariyibi would have hoped for a better first six months at Nottingham Forest. Well, it could hardly have gone any worse.
After signing from Chesterfield in January, Ariyibi failed to make an impression at the City Ground. In fact, he even failed to make an appearance with the 22-year-old still waiting for his first-team debut.
Forest manager Mark Warburton insisted that he had nothing against the former Leeds United youngster but admits that he must up the intensity in training if he is to force his way into Forest’s plans, the club’s official website reports.

However, with Get West London linking the East Midlands giants with a shock move for Sammy Ameobi, Ariyibi’s future prospects remain shrouded in doubt.
25-year-old Ameobi was released by Newcastle United upon the expiry of his contract at the end of last season and was reported to have been in talks with Bolton Wanderers after an impressive loan spell in the first-half of 2016/17.
Get West London adds that QPR are also interested.

However, while the prospect of signing the rangy winger won’t get too many pulses racing at the City Ground, Ameobi’s performances at Bolton in their League One promotion winning season suggest that he is finally maturing into a more consistent performer.
Though supporters will still need convincing that he could genuinely enhance Forest’s starting XI.
Final straw?
Nonetheless, the sight of Ameobi wearing Forest red won’t go down too well in Ariyibi’s camp. If he struggled for opportunities last season, the addition of a new winger won’t help his cause.
