Nottingham Forest’s proposed takeover by Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis is yet to be ratified by the EFL, who are still assessing the Greek shipping magnate’s proposal, as reports BBC Radio Nottingham.

This represents Marinakis’ second takeover attempt of the Reds having failed at the start of the season, and Forest fans are cautiously optimistic that the deal will go through after a truly horrendous reign under current owner Fawaz Al Hasawi.

Under Al Hasawi, Forest lurched from one disaster to the next, and declined in every single Championship season since the Kuwaiti businessman took charge in the summer of 2012, with the Reds finishing eighth, 11th, 14th, 16th and 21st in his five years as owner.

Throw in countless off the field fiascos that have plagued the club relentlessly, and the vast majority of Forest fans simply cannot wait for their beleaguered owner to sell up and leave so the club can move on.

However, Forest fans will have to wait that little bit extra as the EFL are yet to sign off on Marinakis’ proposal, but with pre-season on the horizon, fans will have even more reason to want it processed quickly so the club can go about signing new players.

The EFL are currently facing a huge backlash for how they’ve let new owners come into the Football League in the past, with numerous fans venting their anger at how owners have behaved at their respective clubs – namely Leyton Orient, Charlton Athletic and Coventry City – which may partially explain the delay, with the EFL understandably keen to avoid a repeat of such problems.
