Former Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi is now a real contender for the Sunderland job, rivalling Roy Keane for the role.
That’s according to The Times, who claim that Lamouchi is a shock candidate for the job at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland sacked Lee Johnson last weekend and are now looking to bring a new manager in to aid their lingering hopes of automatic promotion.
Roy Keane appears to be the favourite having allegedly interviewed for the job just days ago, but Lamouchi is now a name in the mix too.
It’s suggested that Sunderland are now looking at Lamouchi is a real rival to Keane for the vacancy on Wearside.
Lamouchi, 50, may be a familiar name to some from his playing days with the likes of Parma, Inter Milan and Marseille.
As a manager, Lamouchi took charge of Ivory Coast to start his coaching career before heading off to El Jaish in Qatar.
Rennes took a chance on Lamouchi in 2017, but he lasted just over a year with the Ligue 1 side.
Come June 2019, Nottingham Forest appointed Lamouchi as the unexpected successor to Martin O’Neill.

Lamouchi was largely popular at Forest, winning 20 of his 55 games in charge before being sacked last season in October 2020.
That prompted a move back to Qatar with Al-Duhail, where Lamouchi boasted a win rate of around 56% – but he left the club in August 2021.
Now seeking a return to English football, Lamouchi is prepared to head into the third tier to try and bring Sunderland back to the Championship.
Keane has history with Sunderland and may still be the favourite, but Lamouchi cannot be ruled out as Sunderland eye a big move.
