Nottingham Forest striker Lewis Walters has signed a new deal to keep him at the City Ground, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Walters joined Forest last September on a short-term deal after leaving Leeds that summer when his contract expired.

Walters came through the ranks at Leeds, but never made a first-team appearance for the club during his time at Elland Road.

The 22-year-old was a regular for Forest’s Under-23s side last season and he was on the verge of being promoted into the first-team before suffering an injury which held up his progress.

Forest have been impressed by Walters and they have offered him a new deal to keep him at the club for the forseeable future.

Forest have shown over the last couple of seasons they are ready to give young players the chance to move up from the youth set-up into the first-team and Walters could be the next in line at the City Ground.

Walters is highly-regarded within the corridors of power at Forest and he is tipped to be involved in Mark Warburton’s first-team plans next season.
