Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga will not be making his debut for the Democratic Republic of Congo this afternoon because of paperwork issues.

Assombalonga is currently with the DR Congo squad in Guinea as they prepare to take on their hosts in a World Cup qualifier. Unfortunately, he will not get the chance to play in the game, as he confirmed on his official Twitter account. Assombalonga sent this message earlier today:

It will be a bitter pill to swallow for the Nottingham Forest striker who this week on Instagram has been highlighting his excitement regarding picking up his first cap for his country. He will now have to wait until the friendly with Cameroon in January to make his debut.

In England you have to sing when you are new, in Africa dancing is the only way ❤️

After that he will be expected to earn a place in the African Cup of Nations squad for DR Congo.

If that is the case than Nottingham Forest will have to make do without the striker for a period of time throughout January.

The Forest striker is the son of former Zaire international Fedor Assombalonga and was born in the African country so this will undoubtedly be a proud moment for the Forest star when he finally gets his debut.

But, for now, he will have to wait.
