Nottingham Forest’s Britt Assombalonga celebrates at full time
Nottingham Forest pair Britt Assombalonga and Henri Lansbury have been discussing their recent on-field squabble regarding a penalty kick.
Forest were 2-0 down against Cardiff City when they were rewarded a penalty late on. Lansbury, who had been on from the start, decided he was taking the penalty. But his team-mate and striker Assombalonga obviously fancied his chances from 12 yards as well.
The pair got into an argument over the spot-kick in what was an embarrassing moment.
Lansbury, undistracted, stepped up and slotted the ball into the net – although Forest went on to lose the game 2-1.
Now the pair have kissed and made up over the incident. Speaking to BBC Nottingham Sport today Assombalonga admitted he was in the wrong and has apologised over the episode:
Nottingham Forest’s Henri Lansbury celebrates
“I want to score, H wants to score, we both want to score so it was a bit like that. But of course, me and H spoke after the game and the air is cleared.
“I said sorry to H because obviously, it was my bad.”
Lansbury however stated that he was not annoyed over the penalty disagreement, saying he expects nothing else from goal-hungry Assombalonga:
“It’s good to see. It’s passionate, he’s a striker, he wants to score goals.
“It was a silly squabble that won’t happen again. It’s whoever’s feeling good. Obviously, I felt good, he felt good. It’s people making it what it isn’t. The air is cleared.”
Nottingham Forest could do with the pair grabbing the team by the scruff of the neck and pushing forward this season.
They are currently teetering above the relegation zone and struggling for results.
Next up is QPR at the weekend and Forest fans will expect the side to pick up a much needed three points.
