HITC Sport understands that a number of clubs are interested in signing Nottingham Forest striker Apostolos Vellios.

Teams in his Greek homeland including Olympiakos and PAOK are keeping tabs on his progress, as are Danish side FC Midtjylland – according to sources – with teams in Holland and Belgium also keeping an eye on his future.

The Greek star arrived from Iraklis and soon won over fans at the City Ground with his hard-working performances.

He has scored six goals this season for the club, all coming in three game spurts, but has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular under the guidance of new manager Mark Warburton. The 25-year-old bullish frontman has not started for Forest since the 17th December clash with Wolves.

Any potential takeover of the club from Greek shipping magnate Evangelos Marinakis could help facilitate a move to Olympiakos, despite the interest of other clubs.

Forest will want to recoup a fee of at least £1 million for the player.

Vellios himself is believed to want another chance to shine at the City Ground next season but may have to move on from Nottingham Forest if he is to play regular first-team football.
