Nottingham Forest’s Michael Mancienne showed his class against Cardiff City despite the loss.
Nottingham Forest lost their unbeaten record in the Championship at the weekend, but there were a handful of positives to take.
Britt Assombalonga got back on the scoresheet, renewing his connection with Michail Antonio.
German addition Robert Tesche also put in another impressive display in midfield, while in defence Michael Mancienne also showed his tenacity.
The former Chelsea trainee made more successful tackles than any other defender in the Championship at the weekend.
| Position | Team | Match | Won Tackles | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Michael Mancienne | DF | Forest | Cardiff vs Forest | 7 | 90 |
| Michael Hector | DF | Reading | Reading vs Derby | 6 | 90 |
| Ryan Fredericks | DF | Middlesbrough | Brighton vs Middlesbrough | 4 | 90 |
| Íñigo Calderón | DF | Brighton | Brighton vs Middlesbrough | 4 | 90 |
A former England under-21 captain, Mancienne’s form has been integral to Nottingham Forest’s early good form this season.
If they are to bounce back away at Watford tonight, Forest will need him to continue this, and produce another solid display against a side who beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 at the weekend.
Manager Stuart Pearce said earlier this season he regards Mancienne as the best in the Championship, and against Cardiff, despite defeat, his view was backed up.
