Newcastle United are said to be keen to snap up Nottingham Forest’s Ben Osborn.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United are tempted to bid for Nottingham Forest’s Ben Osborn, but they should look elsewhere.

Newcastle have been impressed by Osborn’s performances at Championship level, where he has played regularly for Nottingham Forest.

The Reds are said to be looking for a £5 million fee for Osborn this summer by the Nottingham Post, and Newcastle are now reportedly tempted to make an offer.

However, although Osborn looks a solid value-for-money signing at that price, Newcastle need better.

Osborn has shown glimpses of talent at Championship level, and he could develop into a standout player in the second tier.

But at the age of 23 he is no longer a prospect, and making the step up to Newcastle’s first-team would be a major challenge.

The Magpies bought Jacob Murphy last term, who had been far more impactful at Championship level than Osborn, but the winger has struggled to make the grade at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle have also been linked with the likes of Jack Grealish and Kenedy this summer.

And if they settled for buying Osborn, then it would have to be seen as a signing who would do little to improve the quality of their first-team next season.
