Britt Assombalonga’s future at Middlesbrough is reportedly in doubt, and that should alert Nottingham Forest.

According to a recent report from the Northern Echo, Middlesbrough have absolutely no intention of selling Patrick Bamford this summer amid interest from Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.

Bamford arguably played the best football of his career during Aitor Karanka’s spell at the Riverside Stadium, and appears to be finding his feet again at Boro under Tony Pulis, so it is perhaps little surprise that ambitious Forest have their eye on bringing the former Chelsea ace to the City Ground.

However, with Middlesbrough reportedly not willing to consider letting Bamford go, Forest should perhaps pay attention to a report regarding one of his teammates as he may perhaps be a fantastic alternative option.

According to an exclusive from HITC Sport, Britt Assombalonga’s future at Boro is in doubt after a training ground row with Pulis less than a year after he joined the club in a £15 million deal from Forest – fee reported by ITV.

Assombalonga has endured a difficult time with injury in recent years, but he is arguably one of the most prolific goalscorers in the second tier, and Forest should consider offering him the chance to return this summer.

He scored 30 goals in just 65 league games for Forest – a record that instantly becomes more impressive when you consider the length of time he spent on the sidelines midway through his spell – and has got a strike-rate better than a goal every three games at Boro.

If his Middlesbrough future is in doubt, then he would surely jump at the chance to return to the City Ground this summer if Karanka decided to make a move. Boro may perhaps be much more willing to discuss a move also.

The 25-year-old may perhaps not be Karanka’s first-choice target, but if Pulis is ready to let Assombalonga go, Forest simply have to put themselves in the mix.
