Nottingham Forest have already signed Aston Villa’s Gary Gardner twice previously.

With Aston Villa looking to bring in another two new midfielders this summer, it could now be time for Nottingham Forest to bring Gary Gardner back for his third stint at the City Ground.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Villa want both James McCarthy and Glenn Whelan in the coming weeks, with Steve Bruce looking to strengthen his squad.

And if Villa do complete the additions of two more central midfielders then Gardner’s first-team chances will surely be limited.

Gardner made just 18 starts for the claret and blues last term, and more competition can only be a bad omen for the 25-year-old.

Gardner is at a stage in his career where he cannot afford to be sitting on the bench again and, as a result, Mark Warburton should pursue a deal to bring Gardner to Forest on a permanent basis.

Gardner has already been on two loan spells at Forest, and his quality has been clear to see.

The combative midfielder has become a fans’ favourite in both spells at the City Ground, with Forest fans still rating him highly.

And with Villa seemingly set to knock Gardner down the pecking order, now could be the time for Forest to launch a bid to sign midfielder again.
