According to the Daily Mirror, Nottingham Forest are interested in Dean Marney, and if Aitor Karanka really wants the midfielder, he should make a move now.

Marney is currently training with Aston Villa, with Steve Bruce’s side keen on the free agent.

But Forest could steal a march on the claret and blues by making their move now.

Villa simply do not have the money right now to bring in new players, with Bruce’s side still relying on sales.

The Midlands outfit need to complete sales before they bring in any new faces, as Bruce looks to ensure his squad still have enough quality to compete at the top end of the table next season.

Villa are set to lose most their key players this summer, with Jack Grealish among the current members of their squad set to depart.

Marney would offer Villa experience, but Forest could sneak ahead of Bruce’s side in the pecking order by moving now.

Villa simply wouldn’t have the chance to compete with Forest, if Karanka’s side were to offer him a contract at this present moment.

And if the Reds really do want the veteran midfielder then they would be best off making a move as soon as possible.
