The 26-year-old has had an outstanding season for Barnsley and is leaving the club at the end of his contract. He would be perfect for Mark Warburton’s Nottingham Forest side.
Barnsley’s Marley Watkins celebrates scoring his sides first goal
Following the news that Marley Watkins is leaving Barnsley, as per his personal Twitter account, several Championship clubs will no doubt be on high alert, but one that should swoop in immediately is Nottingham Forest.
Watkins has had an excellent year for the Tykes, scoring 10 goals and claiming seven assists from wide right in 42 Championship appearances, and his immense work rate won over pretty much the entire Barnsley fanbase.
Forest boss Mark Warburton recently came out and said that while he wants to trim his squad, as reports BBC Sport, he will also want to bring in some new players, and Watkins would be an outstanding signing on a free.
Out wide Forest aren’t that blessed, with only Mustapha Carayol and Jamie Ward as their recognised widemen, and while Ben Osborn and Ben Brereton can play out there, their talents are better suited in other areas of the pitch.

Signing the 26-year-old would add another option out wide, while also giving Forest someone who knows where the back of the net is and how to create, as well as someone who will run himself into the ground every single match.
The news will be a blow to Barnsley, who face losing another one of their best players yet again – this time for nothing – but their loss will certainly be another Championship club’s gain.
