Tim Cahill would offer Nottingham Forest experience, but he would not be a good signing for the long-term for Aitor Karanka’s side.

According to Sky Sports, Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Tim Cahill – but going through with the transfer would show some serious short-term thinking.

Forest are looking to improve their attacking ranks, with Aitor Karanka keen to make additions before the end of the month.

However, bringing in Cahill would make very little sense for Forest – and would leave questions needing to be answered about Karanka’s long-term plan at the Midlands club.

Although the Australian international is available on a free transfer, there must be better available for the Reds.

Cahill is now 38, and his best days are well and truly behind him.

The former Everton and Millwall man struggled to hit the back of the net in Australia earlier this season, which hardly suggests that he would be a prolific scorer in the Championship.

Cahill also surely only has a very limited time left of playing professional football, given his advancing years.

And Forest should avoid bringing Cahill to the City Ground and look elsewhere, as they need to show a better long-term planning under Karanka to really advance as a club.
